10 of my all time favorite 4x4s

One of the most popular debates you hear when you listen to 4 wheelers talk is "X is the best brand of 4x4s" or "The Z brand is the rock bottom" - and some a lot worse!

I'll just list the 10 of my all time favorite 4x4s

The original Jeep - who could forget the one that started it all
Image

The classic Bronco - terrible to steer but introduced a new suspension and comfort
Image

Range Rover - design that lasts for 20 years has to be good- and the handling is great
Image

Toyota HiLux - simple and functional design that is easy and fast to modify
Image

Chevy Suburban - go big with style and actually use the space you have
Image

Suzuki SJ - extremely light weight and cheap on the gas stations - low maintenance
Image

Nissan Patrol - have proven themselves as the most popular off road truck in Iceland and other countries - there is a reason for that
Image

Isuzu Trooper - hate the fact that they are no longer produced
Image

Jeep Rubicon Unlimited - take a great concept and make it even more powerful and robust
Image

And last but not least...

Hummer H1 - Designed from the ground up to handle the roughest terrain

Yeah I´ll go along with most of those..I reckon that the Jeep marque has come up with some of the most versatile vehicles. I can´t comment on the Jap rigs as I have never owned one or even driven one. I have however driven an H1...quite the beast. Our club had sponsored the Hummer folks for a weekend in Florida and they brought a couple of H1´s. we managed to get both of them insanely stuck in the swamp and being the weight they are, were very difficult to extract. I still think a Jeep is more versatile however, heh!!

I seem to be biased, never driven any but British. Except the Lada Niva which must rate as the best cheapest 4x4 ever on the market, what with Coils all round & full time FWD.

I have driven most of the Land Rover products bar the current Range Rover & Discovery models, including a 6x6 conversion of the 101 FC ambulance

1950's Austin Champ with a Rolls Royce engine & a 1960's Bedford truck being the only others i have driven.
I have travelled in most of the Japanese marques and a GMC suburban tho'.

For expeditions i still reckon the 110 beats all.

Ha, ha, HAH, Landcruiser, is just what its called, as long as it sticks to Tarmac / Concrete roads in the Summer, then its a good car, but no good off road, sorry but thats my view.

Jack.

Sorry Thrandur, but the reason that Range Rover design lasted for 20 years was quite simple, ROVER Engineers hated change, so it stayed the same, except for a few minor Techie bits, same goes for Land Rover too, two piles of British Engineering Rubbish that I am throughly ashamed of and the most costly to maintain, but there you go, thats another English Engineer telling the truth about British Engineering.
