howdy all name is Rion i live in utah, USA i like off roading in all its different ways other then mudding, i do like the recovery scene as well. with that said im currently building a fully custom off road truck it will be a 6x6 yes thats right 3 axles 6 tires, now im planning on using 3 rockwell 2.5 ton axles full upgraded with 6.72:1 ratios with 40 inch tall interco IROK tires my driveline so far will be a GM performance parts 502 ci motor with 450 HP @5250 rpm and 550 lbs. of torque @3500 RPM ill probally add some more torque to it along the way, im gonna use an atlas 4 transfer case with a 10.34:1 ratio. this truck is intended for being capable of off roading and being an excellent recovery vehicle with all that said i have no flipping idea of what to use for a transmission :( any ideas would be appreciated

Howdy Rion!

Welcome to the 4x4 forum 8-)

This really sounds like a MASSIVE project.

Will it be anything like the 6x6 Ice Challenger?

Unfortunately they don't mention the transmission in the list. Could it be the original Econoline?

thanks for post thrandur that is really close to my idea, bu i want a long travel suspension(as much as i can for a 6x6) and will move the middle axle a little further forward but that article is along the same line as what im building too bad it dont mention what kind of transmission, i just need to know of popular off road trannsmission so i can research them so if you or anyone know of good choices for a high torque/horse power motor please let me know dont care if its automatic or stick. oh one of my ideas is intergrating some features to make it amphibious like floats on water i have experience in the military on floating tanks so i think i could do that but need to figure out my driveline/frame issues then i can figure out that one.

You might want to check out the transmissions they use in the Formula Off Road. Ragnar Robertsson uses TH350 and is considering a reinforced TH700 for his next build. GM 4L60 and 4L80 are even stronger but heavier.
