Where to start?

Postby warhawk on Wed Aug 26, 2009 6:46 pm

Hello everyone I just found your forums.

I am looking for some info on what to buy. I am looking to upgrade my jeep to a bigger 4x4. I have a 95 wrangler that I love but it is not the 4x4 for me. I am looking for something a bit bigger so I can get my kids out of the back easier, want something I can drive year round, and something that will be cheaper to upgrade. I bought a Jeep with plans to make what I wanted. The problem is it getting what I am wanting will cost me about as much as I paid for the jeep.

Here is what i want.
Lifted up 2 or 3" (Could go higher if need to for tires)
35"
Lots of room for kids and other stuff
V8 I want enough power to pull something like a camper or boat.
1990-2002 mainly as they are cheaper

Here are a few I am thinking might work but I don't know anyone that can tell me if they are durable or not. It does not matter if they are Chevy, ford, or GMC as long as they hold up well.

Suburban-
Tahoe
Yukon
Expedition
Have I missed in of the full size ones?

Do any of the ones I listed have common axle, motor, transmission problems? If so what should I look for or stay away from?

Thanks for any tips.

Hey Warhawk!

Welcome to the 4x4 forum 8-)

I think any of the trucks you mention would do just fine.

No 4x4 is perfect and they all need maintenance at one point or another. A 10 year old truck will definitely need some care :D

I haven'd done an investigation about potential problems with the ones you list.

Keep us posted...
