4 x 4 Adventure Tour ! Wish !!

Postby Fortaleza Beaches on Sun Feb 08, 2009 3:21 pm

Hi out there to Thrandur and all you 4 x 4 enthusiasts wherever you are.

I want to congratulate Thrandur on this wonderful forum as it has given me a place to go when I need five minutes or so to fantasize about my silly _ _ _ bouncing around over some impossible terrain in the Land Rover that I don't own anymore!

I have recently opened an SBI Web Site where I was lucky enough to come upon knowledgeable people like Thrandur who helped me in the last year though another forum to create over 100 pages on the internet..

And so I wanted to share this idea with all his 4 x 4 friends out there. Although some of you may all ready be doing it..

I created the website and have now become a local travel agent. Not making much money but hope things improve soon.

I am always open to new ideas and this week started helping a Russian group plan a 4 x 4 trek from my city Fortaleza to another state Maranhao about 900 kilometers from here.

That was when I thought with my being able to speak both Portuguese an English and years of traveling as a photo- journalist and all the 4 x 4 contacts I have here. That I might be of more value planning more trips like this, as opposed to just reserving hotels.

I thought of Thrandur who would be in just as capable a position as myself and imagined anyone who had access to a 4 x4 club or website could probably arrange an adventure trek or take part in one. Even make money doing what they enjoy most!

Something like this really requires a local experienced contact to organize it all. Thinking it would be worthwhile to create a club with contacts from all around the world.

For example if I was interested in Trekking in Iceland I would surely contact Thrandur..

If he was interested in trekking in Northeastern Brazil he might contact me.

Well maybe it’s a silly idea but if anyone has something to add to all this and how it could be organized or if club like this already exists..

I look forward to hearing from you!

Regards from Gerard

Thanks Gerard for your great idea 8-)

I'm all for opening up the world for 4 wheelers! If this forum can serve that purpose that would be fantastic.

I suggest we gather signups for those that are running a 4 wheeling operating business in their own country - right here in this thread. Just list the country/area, name of operation, speciality, website and telephone.

What you can do is tell everybody you know that offers off roading tours about this thread and have them add their info.

I can then gather this together in a single directory.

I think I just gave away a great idea for a new SBI site !

Please count me in and I will start with a direct link to my 4 x 4 page (with contact form) and if it is not allowed please feel to remove it.

Getting parts for 4x4 vehicles in Indonesia is very difficult but we think our cars are pretty good.

Andy

I think we have something here and Thrandur is just the guy who can organize it. I would like to say I spent about 10 months in Asia in 1995 and Indonesia was one of my favorite countries ! Just a beautiful place.. Congratulations and Good Luck!

Hi everyone, this is Clay in the spectacular San Juan Mountains of South Western Colorado, USA.alpineparadise.com.I have been a professional 4x4 Tour guide in those mountains for over 20 years and as I look out my window and watch the last flakes of snow come down from (I hope) the last Snow Storm of the season I look forward to running Rigs up and over them mountains.
I have never owned my own tour Biz (though I have given a lot of what we call Bootleg Tours in my own rig) but have worked for many company in the area and currently work for Dave of Dave's Mountain Tours and this is his Link-http://www.telluridetours.com/summer.htm . Just Noticed that Dave has not yet updated his site, he owns a couple of Pinzgauer's , here is a photo of one

coming down the Stair Steps of Black Bear Pass.
The problem here in the States is that as our newly forming Socialist Government takes power, our ability to access our public lands becomes more restrictive, and there need to crack down on small, independent Business has made it virtually imposable to start up a new venture. Just got an E-Mail today stating that the Feds are closing down the Rubicon Trail to motor vehicles. Whats Next?
Yet an idea I have had for a few years is a Time Share Rig, kind of along the principal of a time share condo. Get enough interested folks to buy 2 weeks worth, use for the summer, apply that money into purchasing and modifying a cool rig, collect a yearly upkeep fee that would hopefully pay myself a small salary for managing all. Then for an extra fee I would be available to to ride along and guide, inform and maybe document on video, plus help work out all the logistics, reservations etc, etc. Doing it this way you could side step a lot of the federal rules and regulations applied to commercial ventures.
Non the less I am in a position to do just that, if any one wants a real spectacular vaction into the Four Corners of the U.S.A I have a vast knowledge of things to see, cool places to stay and could arrange rental vehicle or maybe evan provide a Bootleg Tour in my Burb.
